PBS Literacy Program

The Jackson Madison County has been invited to participate in a PBS Raising Readers Literacy pilot program this summer.  We have set up a “literacy corner” in the children’s department of the Main Library downtown.

Using activities and short TV clips from a variety of PBS children’s shows as well as accessing PBS’s interactive website “PBS Island,” our local PBS station WLJT and the library hope to offer another fun way to encourage children to fall in love with reading as well as improve the ever important literacy skills!

Miss Liz’s summer helper, Mamie is excited to work with children ages 2-8 and help facilitate a lot of fun activities through July 23.  (We’ll have a new set of time after that date…check back closer to time for the announcement of new hours.)

Please, no large groups.  Thanks.

The PBS Literacy corner will be “open” during the following times:

Mondays 1pm-3pm
Tuesdays 1pm-3pm
Wednesdays 9am-11am
Thursdays 9am-11am
Fridays 9am-11am

You can visit PBS’s Children’s site anytime at home and play an assortment of literacy-based games at anytime!  Simply visit http://www.pbskids.org or http://www.pbskids.org/read for tons of fun!
