Freeplay & Dance: July 5-11

This week is Freeplay & Dance week.  There is great creativity in just playing!

Here is this week’s schedule:

Main Library:

  • Monday July 6, 2pm. Movie at the Library! Join us as we view the film Lilo and Stitch, the Disney film about a little girl and an alien. Rated G, 85 minutes long. Program Center. All ages welcome.
  • Monday July 6, 5pm.  Art Class with Mr. Poppelaars!  Little Friends Room.  Ages 6-12.
  • Monday July 6, 5:30pm. Being Creative with Healthy Living. Join us as we welcome Madison County Extensions and learn about healthy nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle in the final week of this series! Try samples and participate in activities! Program Center. Tween, teens and their families are welcome to attend.
  • Tuesday July 7, 9:30am.  School Age Storytime.  We are playing today!  If its nice, we’ll go outside to Rotary Park (park next to the library) where we’ll read a story, play some games and maybe have some special visitors who will show us some cool games!  We’ll be in the Program Center if the weather is bad.   Ages 6-8.
  • Tuesday July 7, 10:30am.  Preschool Storytime. We are playing today!  If its nice, we’ll go outside to Rotary Park (park next to the library) where we’ll read a story, play some games and maybe have some special visitors who will show us some cool games!  We’ll be in the Program Center if the weather is bad.   Ages birth-5.

  • Wednesday July 8, 2pm. Kenpo Martial Arts Demonstration. Kenpo Sensei Moore (teacher) and some of his students from Fudoshinka Dojo studio will demonstrate the martial art Kenpo! Come experience this ancient martial art and learn the history, science, culture, and social studies of Kenpo. Sensei Moore is planning a wonderful demonstration and lesson!   • Friday June 26, 9:30 am. Reading with Red.  Join Red, the Red Robin mascot as he and his friend read stories After you listen to 10 stories, you’ll receive a certificate for a kids meal at Red Robin.  All kids welcome.

Library North:

  • Wednesday July 8, 11am. Baby Sit & Sign. Join us as we read a story, sing some songs & dance while incorporating American Sign Language.  Ages birth-2.
  • Thursday July 9, 2pm & 4pm. School Age Storytime.   Ages 6-8.
  • Friday July 10, 2pm. Tween time. More information will announced at a later date.  Ages 9-12.

Not a Box Puppet This is a cool craft using an empty tissue box!

Create a Squiggle Animal Download this worksheet and create a squiggle animal!

Instructions for Garbage Games (Oh, you know you’re curious!)  Just an outline on how to invent a game using stuff in the garbage.

Recycled Fashion Show: Grab a bunch of craft supplies and things that can be recycled (newspapers, magazines, plastic bags, bubble wrap, foil, cupcake liners, etc.) and create a fun outfit.  When you’re masterpiece is finished, have a fashion show!  Don’t forget to video and/or take pictures!

Have fun with Duct Tape: Visit http://www.ducktapeclub.com for instructions on how to make all sorts of neat things using duct tape.

Go to the Park!

Play Frisbee Golf!  It’s really fun, and there is a course at Muse Park!  Click here for some information on disc golf.

Make up a game as a family.  Play!

Turn on the radio and have a dance off!  The wackier the moves, the better!
