Children’s Health Week

Madison County is celebrating “Children’s Health Week” during October 5 – October 11th, 2009!

We hope that you take part in the daily reminders of promoting good health:

Monday–“Give Hygiene a Hand!”

  • Washing your hands!

  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough with a tissue, or cough/sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands!

Tuesday– “Total Health Tuesday”

  • Keep on top of your health…get a checkup every year!

  • Don’t forget about flu shots!

Wednesday–“Walking Wednesday”

  • Why not walk to school today? (With friends and/or family of course!)

Thursday–“Five-Two-One-Almost None”

  • Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

  • No more than two hours a day in front of a screen.  (TV, video game, recreational computer time…)

  • Get at least one hour of physical activity per day.

  • Almost no sugary beverages–no more than 2 servings per week of soft drinks, sports drinks, and fruit drinks that are not 100% fruit juice.

Friday–“Fit for Friday”

  • Let’s get active and eat healthy!

The Main Library will be hosting an event to go along with this special week on Monday, October 5 at 6pm.  We invite all children & their families to come out as we seek out “germs” using a germ detector.
