Art Classes at the Library with American Art Academy

The Library and the American Art Academy with Mr. Frank Poppelaars are excited to offer free art classes at the Jackson Madison County Main Library. Classes will be held on Saturday mornings from 10:30am-1pm.

Due to the availability with the Little Friends Room (where the classes are held),  the first class will be on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10:30am-1pm.

This class will be in an “open studio” format and is open to all adults, teens, and children (with or without special needs) age 8 or older.  With this type of class, students will be free to work under Mr. Poppelaars watchful guidance as he coaches to develop your talent and self-confidence.

The class will cover such topics as:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • collage
  • bookmaking
  • creativity training
  • art appreciation
  • and more!

The classes are free, but students will need to bring their own supplies.  The supply list is as follows:

  • Large Sheets of paper
  • Carton Board or a Canvas to paint, draw or collage
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Brushes
  • Glue
  • Eraser
  • Hairspray
  • Acrylic Paint (white, black, red, yellow, and blue)
  • Tissues to clean up

It is also recommended that students wear old clothes that can get dirty.  Mr. Poppelaars notes that you may be asked to bring a friend on occasion so students can do a portrait, model painting and drawing.

Note:  Change in open house dates, updated 11/23/2009.

There will be an “open house” on Saturday December 12 from 111am-12noon and on December 16 from 6pm-6:30pm for students to come meet Mr. Poppelaars and for him to meet you!  If you are interested in these art classes, this would be a great time to come learn more.
